Board Members

BPOC’s Board of Directors consists of seven individuals, including representatives of cultural institutions that BPOC serve and a representative of the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership.
Chair : Dean Yager
I.T. Manager, The Old Globe
Dean Yager has worked at The Old Globe since 1993, serving first as Box Office Representative, then as Assistant Box Office Manager, then as Information Systems Assistant Manager, then as I.T. Manager. Dean has been an active member in the user community of the Ticketing/ Fundraising systems that The Old Globe uses and strongly supports sharing knowledge among a community. He holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego. He brings a wealth of technical knowledge to the BPOC board.
Vice Chair : Dieter Fenkart-Fröeschl
Chief Operating Officer, The San Diego Museum of Art
Mr. Fenkart-Fröschl is the Chief Operating Officer at The San Diego Museum of Art where he works with the Board of Trustees and the Executive Director to help grow the Museum’s mission to inspire, educate, and cultivate curiosity through great works of art. Mr. Fenkart-Fröschl oversees all Development, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, and Operations functions of the Museum. Prior to moving to San Diego, Mr. Fenkart-Fröschl worked at the American Museum of Natural History in New York where he served as Director of Operations and Senior Director of Institutional Advancement. He played an active role in planning and developing the Museum’s $1 billion campaign; co-led the world’s most comprehensive risk assessment for collections; helped develop museum wide financial and operational goals; and implemented both revenue-enhancing and cost-reduction strategies. Prior to joining the American Museum of Natural History, Mr. Fenkart-Fröschl co-founded the Center for Park Management, a division within the National Parks Conservation Association. Before entering the not-for-profit world, Mr. Fenkart-Fröschl spent three years in commercial banking, middle-market leveraged finance. Mr. Fenkart-Froeschl earned an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York and a BA from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
Secretary : Susan Loveall
CFO, The Carey School
Prior to joining The Carey School in San Mateo, Susan Loveall was COO/CFO of the San Diego Natural History Museum from 2011 to 2017. She came to the non-profit world from the Rancho La Puerta Resort and Spa where she was the Director of Finance and Business Support from 2006 to the 2011. Prior to that, she was Executive Director of the San Diego Senior Sports Festival (1999–2003) and Finance Planning Manager for Petco Animal Supplies. She has also been an Account Officer with Union Bank, where she was selected for the company’s Management Training Program. Susan received her B.A. in Economics from the University of California, San Diego and attended the General Managers Program at Cornell University. She has been involved in a number of San Diego nonprofits including Lead San Diego; ARTS, A Reason to Survive; MADCAPS, Mothers and Daughters Assisting Philanthropy; Elderhelp Board of Directors; California State Games Association, Board of Directors; the XXXVII Super Bowl Host Committee; and MAKUA, an auxiliary of Voices for Children.
Treasurer : Christopher Roberts
C.P.A., West Rhode & Roberts
Christopher M. Roberts is a shareholder in West Rhode & Roberts, Certified Public Accountants. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from San Diego State University. He has over 20 years' experience in public accounting. Mr. Roberts specializes in working with privately held companies and nonprofit organizations. He is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and a Board Member of CPA Associates International.
Charles Castle
Deputy Director and CFO, Museum of Contemporary Art
Charles Castle has been with MCASD since 1990 and is charged with managing Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Facilities, Security, Information Technology, Food Services and Retail Operations. Castle holds an MBA degree from the Anderson School at UCLA and has previous employment experience with The Frederick Weisman Foundation, the J. Paul Getty Trust and the University of California.
Peter Comiskey
Executive Director, Balboa Park Cultural Partnership
An Australian native, Peter Comiskey has a long track record of bringing together diverse stakeholders to launch and operate public cultural and science programs on two continents. Before joining the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership, he served as the Executive Director of the Downtown Anaheim Association, a nonprofit group working with Anaheim city officials, Anaheim’s Redevelopment Agency, and multiple property owners to drive visitation of the city’s downtown precinct through developing and launching a number of major public events. Upon moving to the US in 1998, Peter assisted in the launch of Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana, and then led the US operations of an international tourist attractions group in Baltimore. Returning to California in 2007, he became the founding Executive Director of Anaheim’s MUZEO Foundation, creating a unique model for regional cultural arts venues in the newly rejuvenated downtown Anaheim. Comiskey holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles, and bachelors degrees in business and education from Australian universities.
Tabitha McMahon
Chief Financial Officer, San Diego Museum of Man
McMahon has over 15 years of experience in nonprofit financial and operational management. In her current role as Director of Finance for the San Diego Museum of Man, she is responsible for all aspects of financial management, human resources, IT, security and facilities. Prior to joining SDMoM in August 2013, she was the CFO/Vice President of Business Operations for Little Red Door Cancer Agency in Indianapolis, IN where she oversaw the financial management, data management, IT and human resources for the organization. Previously, she was the Controller for Hoosier Oncology Group in Indianapolis, IN, where she was responsible for all accounting, financial reporting and analysis, human resources and contract negotiations. Before that, as Controller for CODAC, the largest Adult Behavioral Health Provider in Tucson, AZ, she was responsible for all health care claims and billing, contract negotiation and compliance, accounting and consolidated financial reporting and analysis for CODAC and six subsidiary LLC holding companies. She holds a Baccalaureate of Accounting from University of Phoenix. Tabitha has served on the Board of Directors, Finance Committee and Gala Planning Committee for the Starfish Initiative. Tabitha is also a member of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and a graduate of the United Way of Central Indiana’s Executive Women’s Leadership Program.
